WE DID IT!!!
Thank you to everyone who helped.

A private corporation named Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) has planned to build a massive new gas-fired power plant in the Keasbey section of Woodbridge Township (Middlesex County, NJ) polluting our air and water, and making the climate crisis even worse.

The Keasbey Gas Plant

Competitive Power Ventures (CPV), the owner of a 725-megawatt gas power plant in Woodbridge, had been seeking approval to build another gas plant on the same site, located along the Raritan River in the Keasbey section of the Township. If approved, this would permit double the air pollution from the facility and make it one of New Jersey’s worst climate polluters, with 4.6 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year.

The new gas plant requires a Title V Air Permit. According to its application, CPV wants permission to annually emit an additional:

  • 143 tons of nitrogen oxides
  • 141 tons of carbon monoxide
  • 100 tons of particulate matter
  • 78 tons of total suspended particles
  • 51 tons of volatile organic compounds
  • 41 tons of sulfur dioxide
  • 6.9 tons of hazardous air pollutants

The administration of Governor Phil Murphy could have used its regulatory authority to deny this air pollution permit, but they never did.

Official Opposition

Sixteen elected municipal and county governing bodies took a bold stand against the gas plant proposal by passing strong resolutions opposing CPV’s plans for another gas plant.

We’re also proud to have support from the Environmental Commissions in Sayreville, Cranbury, North Brunswick, New Brunswick, South River, Rahway, Edison, Hazlet, and Summit, as well as the Plainsboro Environmental Advisory Committee, and Boards of Health in Cranbury and Highland Park.

Three state legislators also signed the letter to Governor Murphy, formally opposing CPV’s plans.

Additionally, the community organizations listed below co-sponsored our May 14, 2022 public forum to educate the community about this dirty energy project and how we can stop it.
